The ICU has positions for:


ICU Fellows and Senior Registrars

  • 43 hour work week, with five hours for non-clinical commitments.
  • Level of independence in keeping with seniority and we offer a first on-call roster.

ICU Registrars

  • Seven day on/seven day off roster.
  • Five hours of paid teaching in line with the EBA.

We offer a weekly teaching program that covers basic and advanced ICU topics, including participation in the i-Validate communication program and multi-disciplinary SIM program.

CICM exam teaching is offered for both the Primary and Fellowship exam, with mock written and viva exam practice available.

We also offer Hot Case practice sessions with a wide variety of case mix.

Critical Care Residents

Critical Care residents complete a 10-week rotation through the Intensive Care Unit.

Nursing Positions

Our nursing leadership team comprises of a Nurse Unit Manager and Associate Nurse Unit Managers who manage the clinical needs of the unit and staff on a shift-to-shift basis.

You will be supported by Clinical Nurse Specialists, a Clinical Educator and Clinical Support nurses to continue your professional development. New staff to University Hospital Geelong are orientated to the unit by the Clinical Support Nurse Team and a CNS. A development plan is made and any learning packages required are provided.

University Hospital Geelong offers the Masters of Nursing – Intensive Care in conjunction with LaTrobe University. Upon completion of the Post Graduate Certificate staff are able to apply for permanent employment and work towards paediatric, ECMO and CNS qualifications.

We also offer an ICU Development program for staff who have never worked in Intensive Care to develop their knowledge and skills, with a structured education program.
